The Fighting Irish defeat top-ranked Volunteers in Game #1 of Knoxville Super Regional.
The best-of-three Knoxville Super Regional series leading up to the 2022 CWS took an unexpected turn on Friday, as the unseeded Notre Dame Fighting Irish outlasted a late rally by Tennessee to defeat the #1 ranked Volunteers by a final score of 8-6.
With one more victory at Lindsey Nelson Field in Knoxville, Notre Dame will qualify for the College World Series in Omaha. At 39-14, (16-11 ACC) the Fighting Irish only need to win on Saturday or Sunday to advance.
Notre Dame got on the board early Friday night by hitting four home runs and earning an 8-1 lead into the fifth inning before the 56-8 (25-5 SEC) Volunteers began mounting a comeback that fell just short. Tennessee star outfielder Drew Gilbert was ejected from the game in the 5th inning for arguing a called strike.
Legal Indiana sportsbooks, which recently exceeded $500 million in monthly handle for the first time ever, will be taking real money wagers on the Super Regional matchup throughout the weekend in Game #2 and (if necessary) Game #3. First pitch for Game #2 is Saturday afternoon in Knoxville.
A Notre Dame victory could result in a hefty payoff for in-state fans due to the Fighting Irish’s underdog status against the #1 ranked Volunteers.
Nearby Louisville (seeded #12) lost their first baseball Super Regional game against Texas A&M (seeded #5) by a score of 5-4 on Friday night at Olsen Field in College Station, meaning the Cardinals will now need to take two in a row from the Aggies to advance to the CWS.
Texas A&M left the bases loaded in four of their first eight innings, but came through with a clutch bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth to earn the ‘W’ in Game #1.
Soaring Ticket Prices For Notre Dame 2022 Football Opener Against Buckeyes
Want a front row seat the the Notre Dame vs. Ohio State NCAA College Football opener on September 3rd?
The Columbus Dispatch reports that front row seats could cost nearly $9,000 each – even though the game is well over two months away – with nosebleed seats just under $300 per person.
Notre Dame will play its home opener on September 10th versus the Marshall Thundering Herd, with tickets priced much lower so far. Last year, the Fighting Irish finished 11-2 and fell victim to a comeback effort by the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Fiesta Bowl.
Celtics And Warriors Tied At Two
The Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors are deadlocked after four games in the 2022 NBA Finals as the best-of-seven series heads back to San Francisco for Game #5.
There will be at least two more games to bet on, with a potential Game #7 (if necessary) scheduled for Sunday, June 18th at the Chase Center.
