Watching live sports within a sports betting app/platform is apparently the future, as FanDuel has hired Brian Borkowski away from Hulu to become its senior vice president of marketing.
According to a Monday press release, Borkowski was VP of media and acquisition and head of subscriber acquisition at Hulu. At FanDuel, he’ll report to Chief Marketing Officer Mike Raffensperger.
The presser described Borkowski as “a streaming veteran with a proven track record of innovation when attracting subscribers to a platform,” adding that “he will leverage his experience in this new role, overseeing media, customer acquisition, and lifecycle marketing.”
“FanDuel is one of the … largest and most successful advertisers, and Brian will be a critical leader in expanding our capabilities and sophisticating our practice,” Raffensperger said in the release. “Brian’s success in highly competitive environments, sophisticated media strategies, and attracting customers through world-class promotions, partnerships, and propositions will be invaluable as we move forward.”
The release also noted that FanDuel has recently added senior marketing leaders from Anheuser Busch, Priceline, and IPG Mediabrands to its team. Live streaming of sports content wasn’t mentioned in the presser.
Sports that FanDuel has had experience streaming from within its app include tennis, soccer, and hockey. Rival DraftKings recently upped its relationship with Major League Baseball to include in-app streaming.
