Gambler Has $20,000 Riding On UFC’s Poirier For Saturday Bout

One of Indiana’s leading sportsbooks said Friday that Dustin Poirier (25-6) has been very popular in the eyes of UFC bettors, thanks to his impressive resume inside the octagon.

According to FanDuel, it took a whopping $13,300 bet on Poirier at -178, with the odds on him now sitting at -210. The bettor got in at the right time. Poirier faces New Zealand’s Dan Hooker (20-8) on Saturday in a lightweight main event, slated for five rounds in Las Vegas.

The $13,300 wager would generate a profit of $7,471.91, for a total payout of more than $20,000.

Hooker opened as a +150 underdog and now sits at +170.

The sportsbook is rooting for Hooker.

According to FanDuel, the prop outcome it’s rooting hardest against is Poirier winning by decision, which bettors can get at +360. Most MMA experts predict a finish win by Poirier, but most fights in the UFC do go to a decision. So, there could be some nice value on that wager.

The fight is +215 to go the distance and -300 to finish inside five rounds.

Co-main event

An intriguing matchup between Mickey Gall (6-2) and Mike Perry (13-6) in the welterweight division is the co-main event. It will be three rounds, likely all of which will be chaos.

Gall opened a +192 ‘dog against -240 for Perry on June 12. There has been a similar move toward the favorite here, with Perry now -340. Gall is available at +260.

There could be some value on the underdog, given Perry’s roller coaster career and recent training issues (his coach is apparently his new girlfriend). Gall is still inexperienced, however, suffering a stunning defeat to Diego Sanchez, who is far past his competitive prime, in 2019.

Gall is a submission specialist. His most likely method of victory is by sub at +500. It’s rare to see a method-of-victory prop bet for a fight that heavily slanted toward a sub. He’s +1200 to win by KO/TKO and +850 by decision. If you want a long shot, go with Gall by sub in round three at +2100.

While Perry to win by TKO/KO received the most action (-140), some bettors are putting faith in Gall’s chin to hold up. Perry to win by decision at +380 is the biggest prop liability in the co-main event for FanDuel.
